NABARD eyes to fund Agricultural Development and Farmers Collectives - 80th TNAU Annual Conference

As many as 80 research papers were discussed during the conference.


Coimbatore: In a bid to enhance and promote farmer’s market of substantial reduction, higher price and value edition, a two day conference on agricultural economics has been called on by Indian Society of Agricultural Economics todayat the first day of its 80th Annual conference.

The conference, which began todayat Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore suggested themes to help farmers get efficient supply chain management, agricultural labour, skill development, labour productivity, employment and agricultural trade with special reference to the plantation crops and international trade agreements.

This conference was jointly inaugurated by Dr N Kumar, Vice chancellor of TNAU, followed by Dr GR Chintala, Chairman, NABARD and other dignitaries.

Dr G R Chintala, Chairman, NABARD, while addressing the media spoke about the union government, highlighting the steps taken so far with regard to collective of farmers and the agricultural infrastructure.

Stressing on the importance of budget for farmers in the 2021 Union budget, Chintala said that " it is a good budget and NABARD is expanding with FPO, and will be around 10,000 in the next four years.



However, there are around 6000 FPO’s at present, formed under various initiatives of the government and NABARD.

Through this over 14 crore farmers across India shall be benefited with Substantial reduction, Higher Price and other services". He added.



Besides, the conference facilitated researchers from around the world, whereas about 300 economists, students and registered scholars. As many as 80 research papers were discussed during the conference.

Researchers will also be given Dr N A Mazumdar prize award under the best researcher for the topic on Tamil Nadu Economy: An overview.
