FPO or the Farmers Produce Organization received it's first recognition from the state government on January 26th
Coimbatore: Isha Outreach is the Resource Institute for FPO which recently won 1 award which is among the most prestigious state awards. The FPO was formed under the guidance of Sadhguru, founder of Isha Foundation.
Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Edappadi Palanisamy recently presented the 'Best Performing Farmer Producer Company - Governance' award to the Velliangiri Uzhavan in Coimbatore at the Republic Day celebrations.

In a press conference held at the Coimbatore Press Club, Isha Outreach Coordinator Venkatrasa told the media people that "Under Sadhguru's guidance, in the next few years, we will transform Velliangiri Farmer Producer Organisation into India's leading FPO."

In his address to the press Venkatrasa said that, “We consider the award given by the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu on the Republic Day as the greatest encouragement given to our farmers. Around 1,063 farmers are members of Velliangiri Uzhavan. Of these, 70% are small and marginal farmers and 38 % are women who are involved in farming. Farmer's Producer Organization has transformed the lives of farmers in Thondamuthur area since 2013. Initially, the FPO was earning an annual turnover of Rs 45,000 but now has grown to generaterevenue of INR 12 crore."
He further listed the several benefits for farmers and said that the Farmer's Produce Organization has proved to be a one-stop solution for several farming challenges.
Venkatrasa later added that “The farmers just have to grow the produce. The company takes care of all the work from harvesting to marketing and payment into the bank accounts of the farmers."
Kumar, Chairman of Velliangiri Uzhavan said, “We started this company with the aim which ensures that the farmers get profitable prices for their produce. Through this company we are selling coconut, areca nut and vegetables directly to the consumers. This has eliminated several challenges and increased revenue for farmers of Thondamuthur.â€
He then said that because of the Velliangiri Uzhavan uniformity in rates regardless of farmholding has been achieved.
Kumar, Chairman of Velliangiri Uzhavan added that" In addition to direct sales, we carry out various activities such as providing fertilizer to farmers at an affordable subsidised rates, setting up of drip irrigation to overcome water scarcity and assisting farmers to avail and benefit from government welfare projects for farmers."
"The FPO recently shipped a consignment of vegetables overseas for the first time.â€In the first phase, we exported 5 tonnes of 15 varieties of vegetables to Qatar. We are also working to gradually increase the quantity." He said.
During the press meet farmers and directors of FPO including Velumani, Kishore Kumar, Sarathamani, Valluvan, Kanakaraj and Myilsami.
Sadhguru congratulated the FPO via Twitter on winning the award from the Government of Tamil Nadu.
