TNAU launches 11 new crop varieties as a Pongal Gift to farmers!

Officials at the TamilNadu Agricultural University introduced 6 agricultural crop varieties, 4 horticultural crop varieties and 1 wild crop as a part of Pongal Celebrations.


Coimbatore: To uplift the livelihood of farmers in Tamilnadu, officials from Tamilnadu Agricultural University introduce new crop varieties to the farmers.

As a Pongal Gift this year TNAU officials launched 11 new crop varieties for the farmers involved in Agriculture and Horticulture.

These new crop varieties were analysed and approved at the 51st State Crop Varieties Publishing Group in front of many officials including Chief Secretary of Agriculture Department, Director of Agriculture Department, Director of Horticulture and the Vice Chancellor of TNAU before being nominated to the Tamilnadu government.

6 agricultural crop varieties, 4 horticultural crop varieties and 1 wild crop were launched by the TNAU officials this year.Some of the crop varieties include Rice - CO 54, VMR (kathiri) 2 and Rice ATD 55.

Tamilnadu Agircilturak University Vice Chancellor Kumar said that TNAU has introduced 854 crop varieties in the last 100 years. He then said that there are 11 new crop varieties launched this year. TNAU Vice Chancellor Kumar further wished the farmers for a good produce with these new crop varieties.
