Under the 2015 National Avian Fever Scheme over 69,000 ducks and poultry have been killed in Alappuzha and Kottayam districts so far.
Meanwhile, Tamilnadu government has issued a ban on sales of ducks, chicken, eggs, animal feed and meat that are transported from Kerala.
Also the government has been involved in surveillance and sanitization of vehicles from Kerala while entering via the borders of Tamilnadu.
Broiler chicken sellers have said that the ban issued by the government of Tamilnadu has caused the chicken price to go down causing a loss for a majority of the merchants.
Coimbatore district broiler trading association head Kandasamy said that "Avian flu has never occurred in Tamilnadu. Poultry breeding in Tamilnadu is done in a clean and secure method. More than 2 crore kg of chicken meat per day were being shipped to Kerala from the districts of Coimbatore and Tirupur. But as a reaction to avian flu the market has collapsed and the price of chicken meat has crashed 20%."
He also said that the public won't have to panic about avian flu as they just have to consume chicken meat after cooking it well.
