Coimbatore: A special virtual exhibition and webinar for the commercialization of TNAU rice and millet varieties and other hybrids was conducted recently to display all of them at TNAU.
Video clippings of 19 varieties and eight hybrids Rice varieties - ADT 53, CO 51, CO53, Anna 4, TPS 5 and MDU 6, Rice Hybrid - CORH3, Maize hybrid- CO6, CO(H)M8 and CO(H)9, pearl millet variety CO10, pearl millet hybrid – CO9,sorghum variety-CO32, multicut forage sorghum CSV 33MF, Perennial Fodder Sorghum variety- CO31, fodder cow pea – CO9, Fodder Desmanthus variety – CO2, Panivaragu variety – ATL1, Samai variety – ATL1, Tenai variety – ATL1, Cow pea variety – CO(CP)7, Sunflower hybrid – COH3, Castor variety – YRCH 1, Onion variety – CO6, snake gourd Hybrid – COH1, Cotton variety – CO 17 with its special features were highlighted by the special video at the conference and that it will available on YouTube too.
A total of 67 executives from private seed companies and 47 TNAU scientists participated at the meeting todaywhich happened online. The welcome address for the gathering was given by Dr.S.D.Sivakumar, Director (ABD) and he informed that the Directorate of Agribusiness Development is coordinating the commercialization of TNAU hybrids to private seed companies.

He also emphasized besides rice and maize hybrids, TNAU has good castor, sunflower, vegetable hybrids, forage, pulses and minor millet varieties. Through public, private partnership mode TNAU seed materials had to be popularized and reach the farmers in larger areas in the shortest period, leading to better adoption of technologies and doubling of farmer’s income.
Dr.S.Geetha, Director (CPBG), Dr.L.Pugalendhi, Dean, HC&RI, Dr.S.Sundareswaran, Director (Seed Centre) had a virtual panel discussion with the representatives from private seed companies and Farmer Producer Organization.
The queries related to suitability of the varieties and hybrids all over India, MoU procedures, purity and availability of seed materials were answered by a panel of experts.
