TNAU Conducts Special Programme For Farmers On World Soil Day!

A total of 37 farmers including 19 women farmers attended the programme conducted by the TNAU.


Coimbatore: The Tamilnadu Agricultural University has made an effort to expose the importance of soil health, as a part of the World Soil Day celebrations every year on 05th December 2020.



This Farmers – Scientists Interaction Meet programme on Soil Health Management which happened in the Gobanari village in Karamadai, Coimbatore was organised by the All India Coordinated Research Project-Soil Test Crop Response scheme (AICRP-STCR), Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry (SS&AC), Directorate of Natural Resource Management (DNRM), Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore in collaboration with ICAR- Indian Institute of Soil Science (IISS), Bhopal.

A total of 37 farmers including 19 women farmers attended the programme.

During the event Dr. P.Malarvizhi, Professor and Head, Dept of SS&AC gave a special address on the ways and means for maintaining soil health and also explained the softwares available for making fertilizer recommendation and identification of nutrient deficiency symptoms.



The meet also had Dr.S.Maragatham, Associate Professor and AICRP-STCR - Scheme who in explained the fertility status of soils in Gopanari village and the need for adoption of STCR-IPNS technology in various crops to attain targeted yield and sustenance of soil fertility.

This thought provoking meeting also had Dr.R.Santhi, Director of Natural Resource Management, TNAU. Dr. R. Santhi in her address illuminated the importance of soil testing, STCR-IPNS based fertilization and soil health card to the farmers.

Later the soil health cards were distributed to the tribal farmers along with fertilizer prescription. An exhibition was arranged highlighting the soil sample collection and soil health maintenance and STCR-IPNS technology.

A demonstration on soil sample collection was conducted to the farmers by Dr.J.Balamurugan, Assistant Professor (SS&AC).



The main idea behind the programme was to imbibe skill in soil sampling for soil testing and to infuse the knowledge on STCR-IPNS based balanced fertilization for achieving higher yield, fertilizer use efficiency, profitability for sustaining the soil health and livelihood of tribal farmers.

During this interactive session, farmers shared their experience along with gaining knowledge on Soil Test and Crop Response based fertilization.
