Coimbatore: With the number of buyers from Kerala going on a steady downhill, the Nendren variety bananas are now facing a continuous downfall in price which has now left the Pollachi merchants upset.

The price of the Nendren banana variety is on the continuous decline in the Pollachi Gandhi market as only a few merchants from Kerala visit to buy.

The auction for this special variety of Nendren bananas happen twice every week in Pollachi Gandhi market, where buyers and merchants from the nearby places as well as merchants from tuticorin and Mysore visit and buy Nendren bananas at a wholesale price.

The otherwise busy market for Nendren has now slowed down costing the merchants to suffer. One kilo Nendren bananas are now sold at 18 rupees worrying the sellers.

Other banana varieties like Poovan is sold from 200 to 600 INR, Karpooravali variety is sold at INR 250 to 700, Morris variety is sold at 150 to 500 INR. At the same time Red banana is sold from INR 300 to 1000 and Rasthali banana variety is sold at INR 200 to 500.

The Sabarimala Ayyappan season usually encourages buyers to prefer Nandren Bananas but this year almost everything has failed. This is the main reason behind the downfall in prices for almost 3 weeks says merchants of the Gandhi market in Pollachi.
