MoA between TNAU and M/s. Hi-Fi Biotech India Private Limited, Salem for mass multiplication of banana hybrids
Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore is the pioneer institute in banana breeding in India. Since its formation in 1971, TNAU has been actively pursuing banana improvement programmes.
The intensive research in banana improvement resulted in the release of a banana hybrid CO 2 which is akin to the commercial variety Ney Poovan and tolerant to nematodes during 2020.
Large scale multiplication of tissue culture plantlets of CO2 is essential for supply of planting materials to farmers of various banana growing districts of Tamil Nadu viz., Erode, Trichy, Theni and Coimbatore.

A MoA was signed on 23.11.2020between TNAU and M/s. Hi-Fi Biotech India Private Limited, Salem for large multiplication of banana varieties / hybrids in the presence of Dr. N. Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, TNAU, Coimbatore.
On behalf of TNAU, Dr. A.S. Krishnamoorthy, Registrar, TNAU and on behalf of M/s. Hi-Fi Biotech India Private Limited, Salem, Dr. P. Murugesa Boopathi, Managing Director signed the MoA. Dr. L. Pugalendhi, Dean (Hort.), Dr.M.S. Aneesa Rani, Professor and Head, Department of Fruit Science were also present.
