The Department of Agriculture has advised that only the required amount of water should be applied to the paddy and it is important to provide drainage facilities to prevent water stagnation. Stagnant water, excessive nutrient uptake, and tobacco leaf curl diseases could occur in the plants. The TNAU said diseases can affect yields to up to 30 percent. They said if fertilizer is applied as required, leaf curl worm attack will be reduced and lamps can be used at night to kill pests.

Farmers were also asked to immediately report any outbreaks of the disease to the office of the Department of Agriculture.
