Coimbatore: TNAU says that biomineralizer, a mixture of natural fertilizers and chemical fertilizers, can save the soil and enrich it to yield more produce.

Organic fertilizers increase the organic matter in the soil, increase the number of beneficial microorganisms and facilitate the circulation of advanced plant nutrients. Organic fertilizers play an important role in converting low quality fertile lands into fertile land.

It is very important to convert organic waste into organic fertilizers and supply it to the crops. The role of the biomineralizer from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University is considered to be enormous. The biomineralizer is used to compost organic waste such as straw, groundnut husk, paddy husk, maize, rye and maize husks, crop wastes, livestock wastes and household waste.

Biomineralizer produced by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University contains a variety of beneficial microorganisms that can accelerate compaction. When these microorganisms are added to compostable wastes, the microorganisms that are naturally present in the material grow and decompose. Waste ‌takes days to decompose.

At the same time, when the biomineralizer is added, the number of microorganisms increases and their activity begins rapidly and ends in a short period of time. It is recommended to use 2 kg biomineralizer to compost a ton of organic waste. This 2 kg biomineralizer should be dissolved in 20 liters of water. Sprinkle the solution evenly over the beds of accumulated organic waste and let it dry. Water should always be sprayed so that the moisture in the waste is at least 60 percent.

By doing so, the compost is prepared in lesser number days. The compost prepared in this way is recommended at the rate of 5 tons per hectare. Applying it at the base of the soil before planting improves the physical, chemical and biological properties of the sand and helps the crops to take in nutrients easily. It also increases the productivity of crops.

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University biomineralizer is available for sale in the Department of Environmental Science, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. (Price - Rs. 63 per kg).
