Coimbatore: The 6th Annual Seed Workshop was conducted at Seed Centre, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore on March 6, 2020.
Coimbatore: The 6th Annual Seed Workshop was conducted at Seed Centre, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore on March 6, 2020.

More than 60 scientists from various research centres, colleges and Krishi Vigyan Kendras participated in the workshop to finalize the seed production plan of TNAU for the year 2020-21.
During the inaugural session, Dr. S. Sundareswaran, Director, Seed Centre, TNAU welcomed the gathering and delivered the introductory address, in which he elaborated the achievements made by TNAU in seed production.
He pointed out that TNAU has produced and distributed about 1700 tonnes of quality seeds and 22 lakhs seedlings to farming community which accounts for about 20% increase, over the last year.
Dr. S.D. Sivakumar, Director, Agri Business Development, TNAU felicitated the gathering and insisted the need for improvement of seed entrepreneurship and self employment in a big way to meet out the demand for quality seeds.
The Director of Research Dr. K.S. Subramanian felicitated and emphasized to adopt new modern technologies like seed traceability through barcoding, identification of off-types through drones and use of nano technology to improve the quality and quantity of seeds supplied to the farmers.

The presidential address was delivered by Prof. Dr. N. Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, TNAU, stressed the importance of popularization of newly released varieties of TNAU among the farming community. He requested the scientists to focus on commercial multiplication of the quality seeds and other planting material, to make available the required quantity of quality seeds at the right time.
Finally, Dr.P.R.Renganayaki, Professor and Head, Department of Seed Science and Technology proposed the vote of thanks.
