Coimbatore: A one-day nematode awareness campaign cum demonstration for pandal vegetable farmers of Vettaikkaranpudur, Pollachi Taluk, Coimbatore was organized by Department of Nematology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) on February 20.
The event was held under the All India Coordinated Research Project on Nematodes (AICRP-N) in agriculture, ICAR, New Delhi.
About 30 pandal vegetable growers from Vettaikkaranpudur and adjacent villages in Pollachi block who have been cultivating pandal vegetables for several years and facing severe nematode problems. got benefitted by the training.
Dr. P. Kalaiarasan, Assistant Professor (Nematology) welcomed the gathering and explained about nematode problems in different pandal vegetables and their damage symptoms with the help of a zoom microscope.
The importance of nematode disease complex which leads to the mortality of plants was explained by Dr M. Karthikeyan, Assistant Professor (Plant Pathology). Dr. N. Swarnakumari, Assistant Professor (Nematology) demonstrated the use of bio-agents and mass culturing of fungal bio-agents in Farm Yard Manure (FYM) and its application under field condition to manage the nematode problems in pandal vegetables to the farmers.
In conclusion, Subasakthi, Pandal vegetable farmer who facilitated the training proposed the vote of thanks.
