Tirupur: Clueless on ways to mitigate the whitefly infestation which has wreaked havoc at coconut farms across Tirupur district, the farmers from the region have petitioned the District Collector for remedial measures.

The distressed farmers lamented that all their efforts to reach out to agricultural officers in the district failed as none responded.

"The whiteflies that starts to attack from the lower leaves of the coconut trees drains the sap and serve as vectors of plant diseases and secondary infections", they complained.

They also noted that the infestation has started to affect brinjal and cucumber plants, also.

The farmers have jointly petitioned to District Collector, K Vijayakarthikeyan to direct the appropriate officials to help them safeguard their crops and yield.
