Ultra High-Density Planting of Mango: TN Governor plans to popularize technique in his native district with technical support of TNAU scientists

Coimbatore: As against the normal system of planting which accommodates only 65 plants/acre, the Governor of Tamil Nadu and Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Banwarilal Purohit inaugurated the new planting technique of Ultra High-Density Planting of Mango (UHDP) on October 25, 2019 at closer spacing of 4 X 2 m accommodating 500 plants per acre.

Coimbatore: As against the normal system of planting which accommodates only 65 plants/acre, the Governor of Tamil Nadu and Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Banwarilal Purohit inaugurated the new planting technique of Ultra High-Density Planting of Mango (UHDP) on October 25, 2019 at closer spacing of 4 X 2 m accommodating 500 plants per acre. 

As a follow-up action to know more about this technology, the Governor revisited the TNAU College orchard and went around the demonstration plot of UHDP on mango and discussed with Dr.N.Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, TNAU about various aspects of establishing these new techniques, a release from the University noted. 

According to the release, the Governor witnessed the drip fertigation system supplying water and fertilizer to the mango plants established in the demonstration plot of the orchard. He showed keen interest to popularize this technique in his native district of Vidharbha, Maharashtra with active technical support of TNAU

scientists.



During the visit of Governor, Dr.A.S.Krishnamoorthy, Registrar, Dr.L.Pugalendhi, Dean, Horticultural College and Research Institute and Dr.M.Ananthan, Director, Directorate of Open and Distance Learning were present.
