Coimbatore: In a joint initiative by Department of Plant Pathology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) and Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) a three-day programme on mass production of bio pesticide was conducted between November 13-15, a release said.
Coimbatore: In a joint initiative by Department of Plant Pathology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) and Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) a three-day programme on mass production of bio pesticide was conducted between November 13-15, a release said.
Around 30 Agricultural officers and Assistant Agriculture officers, participated in the training, which focussed on knowledge transfer and skill demonstrations on mass production of bio pesticides.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. K. Prabakar, Director, Centre for Pant Protection Studies and Dr.M.Jawaharlal, Director of Extension Education.
Addressing the officers, Dr. K. Prabakar stressed about the insecticide residues and how hazardous they are for human and soil health. He also highlighted on the importance of bio pesticide for clean and green environment.
Dr.M.Jawaharlal emphasised about the importance of the biological control of pest and diseases including flower crops. He also pointed on pigments extracted from diseased flower crops and later used for food materials.
The function of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in each district for the dissemination of the bio pesticide technology and convergence with the Department of Agriculture was also highlighted by him.
The growth on biocontrol usage and research strength on bio control agents were highlighted by Dr. T .Raguchander, Dean, Students Welfare. He also added the new bio control agents, which are in pipeline for plant disease management.
Joint Director of Agriculture, Coimbatore R. Chitradevi, spoke about the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in sustainable farming system and she added that the management of Maize Fall Army Worm by adopting the IPM strategy. The practical manual on mass production of biological agents as a ready reckoner on production technology was also released.
Dr. G. Karthikeyan, Professor and Head welcomed the participants and Dr.M. Muthamilan, Professor explained the objectives of the programme. Hands on training sessions were conducted by Dr. V. Sendhilvel and Dr. A.Sudha.
