Dr K.S. Subramanian, Director of Research, TNAU, Coimbatore welcomed the gathering. In his welcome address, he stressed the importance of spices research in the enhancement of flavour and aroma in the food through active ingredients.
Dr K. Nirmal Babu, Project Co-ordinator (Spices), (ICAR-IISR), Kozhikode presented project co-ordinator report and addressed the gathering. Dr N. Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, TNAU, Coimbatore delivered presidential address and made remarks on the thrust area of spices research to meet the Global requirement.
Dr T. Janakiram, Asst. Director General (HS), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi delivered the inaugural address insisting the production of clean spices to meet the exports standard.
Best AICRP centres Award was presented to High Altitude Research Station, Pottangi, Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT), Orissa and Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology, Uttarpradesh and Best supporting centre award were presented to NRCSS, Ajmer, Rajasthan.
In this function around eight books/booklets on production technology of spices viz., ginger, black pepper, large cardamom and turmeric were released.
Dr Homey Cheriyan, Director, DASD, Kozhikode and Dr Gopal Lal, Director, National Research Centre on Seed Spices (ICAR-NRC), Ajmer and others dignatotries took part in the meet.
