TNAU hosts national seminar 'Food Xplore '19'

Coimbatore: A one-day national seminar 'Food Xplore '19' was held at the Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute (AEC&RI), Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) on October 16, organised by the students of B.Tech ( Food Process Engineering).

Coimbatore: A one-day national seminar 'Food Xplore '19' was held at the Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute (AEC&RI), Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) on October 16, organised by the students of B.Tech ( Food Process Engineering).

Dr. B Shridar, Dean (Agrl. Engg.) highlighted the scope of Food Process Engineering and said that the 11th 'Food Xplore '19' was organized to commemorate 'World Food Day' with the core theme of Zero Hunger. He reiterated that the national seminar aimed to provide an opportunity for Food Engineers, Food Technologists, Food Scientists, Food Growers and the like to showcase their knowledge, concepts, inventions, technology and products that would ultimately lead to 'Zero Hunger,' which is the order of the day.

V V Krishnan, Chief Technical Officer, SKM Egg Products, Erode opined that both industry and academics should go hand in hand to achieve the status of Zero Hunger. He narrated that in spite of egg being the most nutritious food, it is consumed less in India because of the various myths associated with it which can be only be changed by the academicians and researchers to promote egg consumption.

Dr. K Alagusundaram, Deputy Director-General, ICAR, New Delhi presented an inspiring keynote address where he stated that the younger generation has been born to Rich India, not the poor India that had been waiting for wheat from "ship to mouth." He also highlighted that India ranks third in food production amongst the other countries of the world. "This country can now eradicate hunger from the rest of the world by supplying nutritious food. The economic growth of the country is dependent only on the development of entrepreneurs who will become job providers and students should look for avenues to become employers rather than employees," he stated. He congratulated the organizers of the seminar for telling the world India is striding toward achieving 'Zero Hunger which is the need of the hour.

Dr. N Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, TNAU inaugurated the seminar and in his inaugural address he urged the students to improvise agriculture and work on application of latest technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Drones, Robotics in Agriculture, Horticulture and Food Processing. "This will pave the way for exponential growth in agriculture in the country and will be the best strategy to lead the world toward Zero Hunger," he added.

At the seminar, 261 abstracts were received and presented. During the valedictory function, the Dr. A S Krishnamoorthy, Registrar, TNAU, Coimbatore, Dr. M Din, Director, CIAE, Bhopal, Dr. T Raguchandar, Dean, Students' Welfare, TNAU, Dr. B Shridar, Dean, AEC&RI, TNAU, Coimbatore, Dr. V Thirupathi, Dean, AEC&RI, Kumulur and Dr. S Ganapathy, Professor and Head, Department of Food Process Engineering, AEC&RI, TNAU, Coimbatore felicitated the gathering during the seminar.

Earlier, A Ishwarya, IV B.Tech. (Food Process Engineering), the Organizing Secretary welcomed the gathering and Dr P Rajkumar, Professor (FPE) and Event Coordinator of 'Food Xplore '19' concluded the seminar with a formal vote of thanks.
