Coimbatore: The staff training program on “Renewable Energy: Biogas Technology for Sustainable Fuel and Organic Manure” was organized by the Biogas Development Training Centre (BDTC), Department of Renewable Energy Engineering, AEC&RI, TNAU jointly with Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, New Delhi.
Coimbatore: The staff training program on “Renewable Energy: Biogas Technology for Sustainable Fuel and Organic Manure” was organized by the Biogas Development Training Centre (BDTC), Department of Renewable Energy Engineering, AEC&RI, TNAU jointly with Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, New Delhi.
The program was inaugurated at the Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, TNAU, Coimbatore for Agricultural Engineering (AE) Department staff of Tamil Nadu.
Dr. S Pugalendhi, Professor and Head cum Coordinator, BDTC, Department of Renewable Energy Engineering, TNAU, Coimbatore who welcomed the gathering stated that the staff of the Agriculture Engineering Department are directly involved in extension activities to enhance the environment and also to deliver the ongoing projects and techniques to the farmers.
He also advised the AE Department staff to gain knowledge and experience from this training to extend the technology to the farmers. He also requested the staff to acquire knowledge about funding and subsidy opportunities from Central and State Governments, problem-solving techniques in biogas plants and to promote the growth of biogas technology to farmers for the benefit of village development.
Dr. B. Shridar, Dean, AEC&RI, TNAU, Coimbatore in his presidential address stated, "TNAU is the pioneer in Biogas technology. The institute takes the credit for the spread of Biogas technology across our country." He requested the AE department staff to convey to farmers regarding the energy crisis, alternate energy sources, less economic energy technologies and custom hiring of machines. He also stated that the role of engineering in agriculture is highly important and the cheapest energy sources are yet to develop to meet the energy requirement.
Dr. S S Krishnamoorthy, Registrar, TNAU, Coimbatore in his inaugural address stated that India has high potential and tremendous hope in renewable energy sources. He also added that the information about mushroom biotechnology and the knowledge he gained was at ICIMOD (International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development), a regional inter-governmental learning and knowledge sharing centre where he was also acquainted with bio briquetting technology and bio luminescence concepts. "TNAU has three major functions like research, education and extension. For all these functions, the training component is the necessary one to attain success in these activities," he reiterated.
Dr. R Mahendiran, Associate Professor, Department of Renewable Energy Engineering, TNAU, Coimbatore thanked the gathering and reassured them that biogas system will regain its strength in utilization with the transfer of technology to the farmers as LPG subsidy will be cancelled in the near future. He also thanked the Chief Engineer, Agricultural Engineering Department, Govt. of Tamil Nadu for having nominated young engineers to attend the training.
