NSS volunteers of TNAU prepare 10,000 Neem seed balls to increase green cover

Coimbatore : The National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers of Tami Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) belonging to B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, B.Tech. (Food Technology), B.Tech. (Energy & Environmental Engineering) actively participated in preparing seed balls to increase the green cover on rural areas.

Coimbatore : The National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers of Tami Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) belonging to B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, B.Tech. (Food Technology), B.Tech. (Energy & Environmental Engineering) actively participated in preparing seed balls to increase the green cover on rural areas. 

"Seed balls are considered to have a better survival rate and most efficient afforestation technique today, to increase green cover. With the recent urbanization constantly doing away with the greenery around, these seed balls are becoming a symbol of every tiny drop of humanity trying to rebuild and repair every facet of nature with the magic of brown to green", said the release from TNAU. 



The release added that "Over 10,000 neem seed balls were prepared by about 200 NSS volunteers. These seed balls will be planted in the adopted Vellamadai Panchayat village." 



Dr. M R Backiyavathy, NSS Programme Co-ordinator, Dr. P R Renganayaki, Professor and Head, Department of Seed Science and Technology and NSS Programme officers Dr. K Raja, Assistant Professor (SST), Department of Nano Science and Technology Dr. M Kathiravan, Assistant Professor (SST), Department of Seed Science and Technology TNAU, Coimbatore participated in the event.
