TNAU bags award for commendable research in Vegetable Science

The 37th annual group meeting of the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRO) on vegetable crops was inaugurated at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University on June 22 and will continue till June 25. The Indian Instituteof Vegetable Research (IIVR), Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and the Department of Vegetable Crops, TNAU, Coimbatore organized the meeting.

The Indian Instituteof Vegetable Research (IIVR), Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and the Department of Vegetable Crops, TNAU, Coimbatore organized the meeting.

The chief guest of the function, Dr. Kirti Singh, Ex. Chairman, Agricultural Scientist Recruitment Board, New Delhi delivered the Presidential address. He appreciated the efforts of the TNAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr. N. Kumar and his team for their remarkable contribution in vegetable research. At the meeting, the Lt. Amit Singh Memorial Award for the best AICRP centre 2018-19 was presented to the Department of Vegetable Crops, TNAU, Coimbatore. On behalf of TNAU, Dr. L. Pugalendhi, Dean (Horticulture.), TNAU, Coimbatore and Dr. R Swarna Priya, Professor and Head, Department of Vegetable Crops and team members received the award. 



Dr K. S. Subramanian, Director of Research, TNAU, Coimbatore welcomed the gathering and cited the importance of vegetable research in the enhancement of nutrition to people. Dr. Jagdish Singh, Director of IIVR delivered the project remarks and coordinators report. Dr T Janaki Ram, Assistant Director General (Horticulture), ICAR, New Delhi and Dr R Rathinam, the Former Director of National Research Center on Oil Palm and Former Executive Director of Asia Pacific Coconut Community felicitated the gathering. 

Dr D P Ray, Former Vice Chancellor, Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar delivered the special address. The annual report 2018-19 for this project and proceedings and recommendations of the First Vegetable Science Congress were released. Three books on Good Agricultural Practices in Vegetable Crops, A glance on Vegetable Varieties of TNAU and Grafting Technology in Vegetable Crops were released. Dr L. Pugalendhi, Dean (Horticulture.), TNAU concluded the event by formally thanking the gathering.
