TNAU VC Prof.Kumar awarded 'Life Time Recognition Award' by Confederation of Horticulture Associations of India

Coimbatore : Prof. (Dr.) N Kumar, the Vice Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore has been bestowed with the 'Life Time Recognition Award' by the Confederation of Horticulture Associations of India, during the International Conference on Innovative Horticulture at Pant Nagar, Uttaranchal, on May 28.


Coimbatore : Prof. (Dr.) N Kumar, the Vice Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore has been bestowed with the 'Life Time Recognition Award' by the Confederation of Horticulture Associations of India, during the International Conference on Innovative Horticulture at Pant Nagar, Uttaranchal, on May 28. 

He was appreciated for his outstanding contribution in the field of horticulture and academic leadership, focused on HRD in agriculture. 

Prof. (Dr.) N Kumar started his academic career as an Assistant Professor in TNAU and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1986. He was also promoted to the post of Dean in 2009 and made Professor in 1992. In his career, Prof. Kumar served at various placea like HCRI (TNAU), Periyakulam, HRS (TNAU), Kodaikanal and Yercaud and at Coimbatore as Dean (Hort.) between 2009-2013.

In a career spanning 35 years, Prof. Kumar has guided more than 21 M.Sc (Hort.) and 13 Ph.D (Hort.) students, five of which received the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Award. He handled 20 extremely funded projects and is credited to have developed more than 10 varieties and many technologies. Prof. Kumar was the Convenor of the II International Symposium on Papaya held at Madurai in December 2008, and also for 12 national and 3 international conferences. Prof. Kumar visited 19 countries for various international events.



Prof. Kumar was institutional in developing and signing MoU with many universities. During his career, Prof. Kumar bagged five in-house medals and seven national medals, two from the organizations for his contribution to Horticulture. He is fellow of AIPBUP and HIS and a member of RACQRT of ICAR, as well as Chairman and members in various high powered committees.

 

He was also part of an accreditation team of ICAR, and has published eight textbooks and 14 chapters in the editorial book, published more than 130 research papers in international and national journals, as well as in bulletins. Currently, Prof. Kumar is providing academic leadership as the Vice Chancellor of TNAU and is focused on the development of Horticulture.
