Isha Agro Movement conducts training on Organic Farming for 450 farmers

Coimbatore: Training programs on 'Organic Farming' were conducted by the Isha Agro Movement from the year 2015, across the state of Tamil Nadu. More than 65 programs were conducted till date, by which more than 6000 Tamil Nadu farmers have reportedly been benefited.

Valluvan, a pioneer organic farmer in Coimbatore is jointly working with the Isha Agro Movement for the past 10 years. His farm in Pollachi's Vettaikaranpudur is created as a model organic farm for this purpose and four training programs have been conducted at his farm in the past one year. More than 450 farmers from across the State are said to have benefited from these programs.



A model five-layered cultivation of coconut trees was exhibited at his farm yesterday. Around 200 coconut farmers from Tamil Nadu participated and were taken for a tour around the organic farm. Valluvan explained about the detailed processes of growing catch crops like banana trees and curry trees in between coconut trees, whilst also growing nutmeg as sub-crop, and pepper in between timber trees like mahogany. He also shared his experience about 'Gliricidia sepium' which stabilises foliage growth, 'Mulching' which helps in soil enrichment and also water management.

Muthukumar, a volunteer of the Isha Agro Movement organised the program, Thamilan, organiser of the Isha Agro forest project explained about Agro-Forests to the farmers.
