Coimbatore: The Agro Climate Research Centre, Directorate of Crop Management, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) organized the World Meteorological Day with the objective of creating awareness among students and faculties regarding environmental protection, along with a national level workshop on Climate Models and Crop Simulation Models on March 25.
Coimbatore: The Agro Climate Research Centre, Directorate of Crop Management, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) organized the World Meteorological Day with the objective of creating awareness among students and faculties regarding environmental protection, along with a national level workshop on Climate Models and Crop Simulation Models on March 25.

During the inaugural function, Dr. V Geethalakshmi, Director, Crop Management welcomed the gathering and emphasized the role of meteorology in changing climate. She also emphasized the importance of the crop simulation model as the need of the hour.

The chief guest of the function, Dr. R Jagannnathan, former Professor and Head, ACRC delivered the key note address and elaborated on the past, present and future climate. He also pointed about the pre-industrial Co2 concentration and compared it with the current concentration level of 411 ppm and its influence on crop growth.

Dr. N Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, TNAU elucidated the research on agricultural meteorology and stressed for precise weather prediction. He also cherished the growth of the ACRC from the meteorological unit in early days. He also appreciated the students' active participation in the different events conducted by the ACRC. The function concluded with Dr. S P Ramanathan, Professor and Head, ACRC thanking the gathering for their participation in the event.
During the event, a short film about the WMO theme of “The Sun, The Earth and The Weather” – 2019 was screened and the students who won the events viz., competitive quiz, rangoli and drawing were awarded with certificates and prizes.
