World Water Day: TNAU plants 200 silver oak trees with drip irrigation system

Coimbatore : The World Water Day 2019 was celebrated at Water Technology Centre, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) Coimbatore on March 22.

Coimbatore : The World Water Day 2019 was celebrated at Water Technology Centre, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) Coimbatore on March 22. 



Vice Chancellor, Dr. N.Kumar TNAU presided over the function in which, Dr. S. Narayanan, Area Manager, Jain Irrigation Systems, Mr. M. Parthasarathy, President Water Users Association, Govindapuram and Dr.Megth R Goyal University of Puerto Rio, USA were the guests of honour. 

The Vice Chancellor Dr.N.Kumar in his presidential address indicated the measures to conserve water and its judicious use. 

A book entitled 'Crop and Water Profile of Villupuram district' and other books were released.

In view of World Water Day, Elocution, Essay competitions for the students was conducted and prizes were distributed during the occasion. The delivery of Dr.R.K.Sivanappan Endowment Lecture on 'Potential & Prospects of Irrigation' (Surface, Subsurface, Micro & Ultra Irrigation) was carried out by Dr. Megh R Goyal, retired professor in Agriculture and Biological Engineering, University of Puerto Rico, USA. 



To commutate the International Forest Day and World Water Day, a massive tree planting was carried out on March 22 at FC&RI, Mettupalayam which will be maintained by the students. Two hundred silver oak trees were planted with drip irrigation system and the UG students planted and study the growth and disseminate the International Forest Day and World Water Day significance to the future generation.
