Coimbatore : The inaugural function of the 'Earn While You Learn' program connected to a UG practical course, popularly known as 'Student Plot Cultivation of Rice' was held as an auspicious ceremony on March15 at the wetlands of the Department of Agronomy in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore.
Coimbatore : The inaugural function of the 'Earn While You Learn' program connected to a UG practical course, popularly known as 'Student Plot Cultivation of Rice' was held as an auspicious ceremony on March15 at the wetlands of the Department of Agronomy in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore.

The nuances of crop production are taught to the third year students by the Department of Agronomy. System of Rice Intensification consisting of single seedlings, square planting, alternate wetting and drying, operation of Cono Weeder, LCC based nitrogen application are implemented to inculcate the concept of more crop per drop of water in the Student Plot Cultivation course.

Each student will be allotted five cents of land in wetland farm and the entire operations will be handled by the individuals themselves, with the profit given to the individual students.
This methodology of transplanting was inaugurated by the Vice–Chancellor of TNAU, Dr. N Kumar along with Dr. V Geethalakshmi, Director (Crop Management) and Dr. M Kalyanasundaram, Dean (Agriculture).

Dr. C R Chinnamuthu, Professor and Head, Department of Agronomy and the course teachers were involved in organizing the inaugural function of planting at the Wetland farm. The Deans of colleges, Directors and the Heads of Departments also participated in the event. Nearly 120 students have been involved in this transplanting operation.
