Coimbatore: ITC Mission Sunehra Kal entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Water Technology Centre of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) today to demonstrate and promote water efficient technologies in the Upper Bhavani river basin catchment area of Coimbatore district.
Coimbatore: ITC Mission Sunehra Kal entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Water Technology Centre of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) today to demonstrate and promote water efficient technologies in the Upper Bhavani river basin catchment area of Coimbatore district.
Under this collaboration, the Water Technology Centre of TNAU will identify the best technologies that can improve the efficiency of water usage in major crops that need high water intake. TNAU will demonstrate these technologies in the field, train farmer groups on these and provide scientific evidence of water saving and productivity improvement.

ITC will spread these technologies in the larger Bhavani basin area in collaboration with the Agriculture Department, panchayats, farmer groups and partner with NGOs. The Upper Bhavani river basin catchment area has been witnessing successive drought and alarmingly falling ground water table due to over exploitation. This initiative is expected to bring in water security for agriculture in the area.
The TNAU Water Technology Centre Director, B J Pandian, signed the agreement on behalf of the University and ITC’s Packaging and Specialty Paper unit, while the Kovai Head, Pranav Sharma signed on behalf of ITC Ltd. AVN Sateesh Kumar, unit HR Head of ITC PSPD Ltd., Dr. A Raviraj, Professor, TNAU, Harish Babu, HR, Programme Manager ITC Ltd., Kathiresan, Secretary COODU and Dinesh,, Programme Executive ,ITC Ltd were present during the event held at the TNAU campus.
