The Nilgiris : With World Soil Day being celebrated today, soil health cards were distributed to farmers in the Nilgiris.
The District Horticulture Department and the Mountain Crops Department conducted a World Soil Day celebration at the Horticulture Department campus today. During the occasion, as per the Central Government’s 'soil health cards' scheme, soil samples were collected at 3867 places at the measurement of one sample in 10 hectares. The samples were then examined, based on which soil health cards were distributed.
Based on the recommendations in the card, fertilizers were distributed at the villages. A total of 200 seedlings were provided to 100 farmers on the basis of two seedlings each. Beetroot, carrot ad cauliflower which are cultivated by natural means were also placed for display during the event.
