Coimbatore: Twenty five scientists from Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu took part in the 21-day session ICAR-Winter School on ‘New Vistas in seed production, Processing, Seed Enhancement and Marketing’ which commenced on November 14 at TNAU.

A release from the University states that "The ICAR Winter School on 'New Vistas in seed production, Processing, Seed Enhancement and Marketing' emphasizes on the importance of quality seed production which includes the development of standards for nursery seedling which would warrant the objective of the futuristic agriculture".

During the inaugural event on November 14, Dr.K.Ramasamy, Ex Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the Winter School and released the training manual.
Dr.M.Bhaskaran, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Open University in his address urged that quality seeds produced should reach the farmers in time.

"The participants will imparted knowledge on latest techniques related to seed production, post harvest handling and value addition. Visiting various spots such as seed production plots, private seed company, ICAR institutes, Accredited seed Testing Laboratory are also planned as part of the event. Hands on training on technologies like seed pelleting, seed priming, DNA finger printing and value addition techniques in millets will also be provided to the participants" the release added.
