Indian sugar mills produce 10.8 lakh tonne sugar till November 13, says NFCSF

Pune : Indian sugar millsNSE -4.00 % have produced 10.80 lakh tonne sugarNSE 0.62 % till November 13 as against 19 lakh tonnes they had produced during same period of previous year, said National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories. The country is expected to produce 324 lakh tonnes of sugar during 2018-19.

The country is expected to produce 324 lakh tonnes of sugar during 2018-19. 

Sugar mills from Maharashtra have produced 5.60 lakh tonnes of sugar, while Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh have produced 2.30 lakh tonnes and 1.20 lakh tonnes respectively. 

According to the Federation, 103 sugar mills from Maharashtra have started crushing operations, while 42 mills from Uttar Pradesh have been producing sugar. 

"We expect UP sugar mills to produce 112 lakh tonnes of sugar, while those from Maharashtra are expected to produce 97 lakh tonnes of sugar during 2018-19 season. Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu are expected to produce 41 lakh tonnes, 11 lakh tonnes and 10 lakh tonnes of sugar during this season," said Dilip Walse Patil, chairman of the Federation.
