Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has stated that prices for Poovan, Karpooravalli and Nendhran banana varieties will remain stable for the next two months.
A recent release from TNAU on banana prices states, "Price Forecasting Scheme of the Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies, TNAU analysed the past seven years' monthly prices of cultivars of Poovan, Karpooravalli and 10 years of monthly prices of Nendhran banana in Coimbatore.
The result of the analysis and trader survey indicated that all the cultivars such as Poovan, Karpooravalli, and Nendhran prices will be stable during the months of November-December 2018, and the expected average farm gate price would be Rs.17-18 per kg for Poovan, Rs.20-22 for Karpooravalli and Rs. 38-40 per kg for Nendhran, respectively, in the Coimbatore market.
"It is expected that demand for banana will rise in the coming months due to festive seasons and the monsoon factor would determine future price status," added the release.
