Coimbatore: Department of Environment, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and ITC - WOW - ESREE company jointly organised an event to create awareness about recycling wastes at the Humus Fertilizer department, TNAU today. An inter college competition on recycling wastes was also conducted.

Addressing the event, Jeyanthi, Director (i/c), Natural resource management and Director of Crop Management said that every individual should contribute to Clean India movement and should maintain their surroundings clean. she emphasised that students should start keep their surroundings clean and start recycling the wastes.

Shanmugasundaram, coordinator, ITC - WOW - ESREE, stated that almost 900 tonnes of waste is generated in Coimbatore every day of which 40% can be recycled.
Recyclable waste collected by the students belonging to various departments amounted to 2 tonnes. To encourage the students who contributed to this, ITC - WOW - ESREE gave note books and writing materials as gifts. Certificates and prizes were given to students and departments who collected huge volumes of recyclable waste.
Arivudainaayagam, HOD, Department of Environment, while delivering his speech stressed on the importance of the event which was meant to create awareness among students about recycling of waste.
