Coimbatore: The 27th Annual group meeting of All India Coordinated Research Project on Floriculture was inaugurated at Tamil Nadu Agriculture University today and ICAR researchers said that India would gain Rs.575 crores in foreign exchange through flower cultivation.
Coimbatore: The 27th Annual group meeting of All India Coordinated Research Project on Floriculture was inaugurated at Tamil Nadu Agriculture University today and ICAR researchers said that India would gain Rs.575 crores in foreign exchange through flower cultivation.

During this three-day event, seminars on value-addition products from flowers and ways to increase profits of flower farmers will be conducted. Addressing media persons after the inauguration of the event, Dr. T Janakiraman, Additional Director General (Horticulture) said, “This is the right time to increase our flower cultivation area. India can earn Rs.575 crores of foreign exchange through flower cultivation. Currently, flowers are cultivated in 2.5 lakh hectares of land across the country and Jasmine, Tuberose, and Rose are the main flower varieties cultivated.”

Janakiraman added there are 70 percentage possibilities for dried flower export and there is an increasing opportunity for lawn development. “Instead of exporting raw roses, exporting it as a value-added product like Koolkand or as food item mixed with dates will help in making profits”, he said.
