Mustard purchase at MSP of Rs 4,000 per quintal by HAFED

Haryana government has decided to procure fair average quality (FAQ) mustard seed at minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 4,000 per quintal, including bonus of Rs 100, well above the market rate.

Chandigarh: Haryana government has decided to procure fair average quality (FAQ) mustard seed at minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 4,000 per quintal, including bonus of Rs 100, well above the market rate.

HAFED chairman Harvinder Kalyan said that it would procure the mustard seed at MSP under the centre's Price Support Scheme (PSS) on behalf of NAFED.

Under the scheme, HAFED would procure mustard seed directly from the farmers through the shops of its member Cooperative Marketing Societies. The payment to farmers would be made electronically through RTGS to their bank accounts, he added.

He said that Haryana government has decided to start the procurement of mustard seed from March 15. Earlier, procurement was taking place from April 1.

However, the actual procurement would actually start from the day NAFED receives its approval from the Centre.

To avoid inconvenience to the farmers, it has been decided by the Haryana government that the procurement would be made in a phased manner. A day-wise roster of villages would be prepared for procurement by the respective Deputy Commissioners and that would be conveyed in advance to the farmers by way of munadi in the villages and through newspapers.

He further informed that this procurement of mustard seed will initially start from 19 purchase centres in 11 districts including Rewari, Narnaul, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Hisar, Sirsa, Fatehabad, Gurugram, Jhajjar, Rohtak and Karnal. More purchase centres may be opened on the basis of arrival of mustard seed in the mandis. This procurement will continue till May 10, 2018, he added.

The HAFED chairman also made an appeal to the farmers to bring their produce after proper cleaning and drying up to the moisture level of eight per cent as per the FAQ specifications so as to avoid inconvenience to them and its hassle-free procurement and safe storage.

He expressed his satisfaction over the preparation made by HAFED for the smooth procurement of the mustard seed and assured that HAFED would efficiently carry out this purchase and in the best interest of the farmers of the state.
