Staff Training Programme on Renewable Energy Technology at TNAU

The staff training programme on Renewable Energy Technology was organized by Biogas Development Training Centre (BDTC), Department of Bioenergy, and AEC&RI, TNAU sponsored by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, New Delhi.

The four day  training Programme was inaugurated on  September 25. The participants are Engineers from Agricultural Engineering Department, Scientists from KVK’s and staff from Polytechnic Colleges of Tamil Nadu.

Dr. S. Pugalendhi, Professor and Head Cum Coordinator (BDTC), welcomed the gathering with the assurance that the staff training will be eye opener for the importance and role of renewable energy in agriculture and other allied industries, the importance should be given to biogas as fuel for cooking because LPG subsidy will be cancelled in near future.



Dr. C. Divaker Durairaj, Former Dean, AEC&RI, TNAU, Coimbatore gave his introductory remarks in which he stated that TNAU is the pioneer in developing Renewable Energy Gadgets from the year 1982. The department of bioenergy of this institute, takes the credit to spread biogas technology throughout the state and have hands on research and practical based experience in the field of renewable energy. This is the right place and right department to attain knowledge regarding renewable energy.

He requested the participants to gain knowledge and experience from this training to extend the technology to the farmers/society to create awareness about the sustainability. Dr. S.V. Kottiswaran, Dean, AEC&RI, TNAU, Coimbatore gave his felicitation to the gathering and insisted the importance of training on Renewable Energy Technology. 

The special address delivered by Dr. H. Philip, Director (Extension Education), TNAU to the gathering and stated that TNAU has 3 major functions like research, education and extension. For all these functions, training component is the necessary one to attain success in these activities. He assured that the participants will attain knowledge and skill from this training programme to extend the renewable energy to our society.



In Inaugural address, the Chief Guest Er.R.Mani, Chief Engineer, River Valley Project, Agricultural Engineering Department, Chennai informed that as an ever growing population means an ever growing requirement for energy. The importance of renewable energy is well known to our society as fossil fuels are getting depleted.

TNAU has developed major renewable energy gadgets for the benefit of our community. He also informed that community based biogas plant installed at Odanthurai, Coimbatore District acts as a role model in utilizing the cow dung for biogas production and replacement of LPG with biogas by the whole village. He also requested the participants to acquire knowledge about funding and subsidy opportunities from NABARD, central and state governments, problem solving techniques in renewable energy technologies (RET’s) and to promote the growth of RET’s to farmers for benefit of our country.
