Jagtial: “The government is striving hard to uplift the farming community present in the State and is taking measures to supply water for about one crore acres across the State for irrigation purpose,” said Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy.
He participated in an awareness programme organised for the representatives of farmer coordination committees (FCC) of village, mandal and district level, at Kathalapuram mandal headquarters in Jagtial on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Srinivas Reddy said by investing Rs 1.50 lakh crores, the State government is constructing projects like Kaleshwaram, Palamur, Bhakta Ramadasu and Sitarama projects with a view to supply water for two crops. An awareness programme to FCC representatives was organised in about 577 mandals across the State on Sunday (September 10). The farmers, who are residing in villages and dependent only on farming, are taken as members of FCCs.
At village-level, 15 members including five women and the FCCs at mandal and district-level will have 24 members including eight women. These members must take initiation for testing the soil to direct the farmers for cultivating suitable crops in their fields after agricultural officials declare results along with issuing cards of soil testing to the farmers, said the Minister.
Necessary steps were taken by investing Rs 6,500 crores for purchasing food grains produced by the farmers and for sanctioning agricultural equipments on subsidy to the farmers under mechanisation of cultivation along with supplying uninterrupted power for 24 hours, Reddy assured.
The government had appointed as many as 2,630 agricultural officers for every 5,000 acres making it as a cluster. An agriculture office and soil testing centre will be constructed at the headquarters of every cluster by investing Rs 15 lakhs for each cluster, he explained.
Zilla Parishat Chairperson Tula Uma, District Collector Dr A Sharath, Korutla MLA Kalvakuntla Vidya Sagar Rao, MARKFED chairman Bapu Reddy, district agricultural officer Bhagya Lakhmi, district cooperative officer Ramanujachary and additional director of horticulture department Pratap Singh were present along with others.
