Area under Rabi oilseed crop increases

Trade body the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA) has said in its report that the area under Rabi oilseed crop for 2016 -17 has gone up by by 7.14% to 91.9 lakh hectares as compared to 85.77 lakh hectares in the previous year.

The SEA report says that Rabi groundnut crop has increased to 15.45 lakh tonnes from 12.40 lakh tonnes of last year, up by 3.05 lakh tones and rapeseed-mustard including taramira crop increased to 69.71 lakh tonnes from 58.00 lakh tonnes of last year, up by 11.71 lakh tones.

Rabi sunflower seed crop decreased to 1.30 lakh tonnes from 2.40 lakh tonnes of last year, down by 1.10 lakh tonnes, while Rabi sesame seed crop marginally increased to 2.30 lakh tonnes from 2.25 lakh tonnes of last year, up by 0.05 lakh tones.

The report adds that the overall Rabi oilseeds crop 2016-17 has increased by 18.53% to 91.76 lakh tonnes from 77.41 lakh tonnes last year, up by 14.35 lakh tones, thanks to higher rapeseed crop.
