A total number of 585 mandis will be integrated with the electronic-National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) by March 2018, said Agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh.
He said that development and upliftment of farmers is the first priority of the government and to achieve it, the government aim is to double the income of farmers by 2022.
"The government has made arrangements for conducting whole sale market through e-platform (e-NAM) in the whole country so that the farmers may sell their products at reasonable price," he said while adding that out of the 585 markets, 400 markets would be integrated by March 2017.
The minister said this on the inauguration of the three-days Krishi Unati Mela being held in Indian Institute of Agriculture Research today.
The e-NAM project launched in April 2016 was envisaged to improve the earnings of farmers, make available trade at a lower cost to buyers and develop permanent mandis. Till December 2016, over 250 wholesale markets across 10 states were connected to the platform, according to ministry data.
In the second phase starting from October, 2016 to March, 2017, all the mandis in a state will start trading through e-NAM. In the third phase (March, 2017 to March, 2018), inter-state trading will be enabled, said the official.
Currently, the quality parameters for 69 commodities including cereals, pulses, oil seeds, spices, fruits and vegetables have been notified for trading on the e-NAM platform. There are 6,746 regulated mandis in country through which trading of agricultural products happen.
