The Memorandum of Understanding was signed to facilitate post-graduate students’ research and training.
Coimbatore: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University TNAU), Coimbatore with ICAR-Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore for facilitating post-graduate students’ research and training.
TNAU is the recipient of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research’s (ICAR’s) prestigious Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR Institution Award, with the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 ranking TNAU at 5th position in the Agriculture and Allied Sector Category.
ICAR-SBI is one of the oldest premier agricultural research institutes under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and been largely responsible for meeting the sugarcane varietal requirements of the country for the past 10 decades and awarded with the Best Institution Award.
Dr.N.Senthil, Dean (SPGS), TNAU, Coimbatore welcomed the gathering and detailed the significance of sugarcane research. Having discussed fields of common research interests and allied activities between the two institutions,both parties decided to enter into long-term collaboration for promotion of students’ training and quality post-graduate research in cutting edge areas such as Varietal Development, Advanced Clonal Demonstration, Genome Editing, Tissue Culture Techniques, Mass multiplication of seedlings of elite clones, Identification of location specific varieties by evaluating in research stations in different parts of Tamil Nadu and Collaboration with Agricultural University and Industries.

The signing authorities, Dr. R TamizhVendan, Registrar, TNAU, Coimbatore and Dr.G Hemaprabha, Director, ICAR-SBI, Coimbatore signed the agreement and exchanged the MoU document in the presence of Dr.V Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor, TNAU, Coimbatore. The Vice-Chancellor remarked about the essentiality of this academic collaboration and the way forward. Delegates from both parties attended the signing ceremony and graced the occasion.
