More than 100 artefacts have been put on display at the one-day Parai conference today.
Apart from this, various programmes such as the release of parai books, 1330 Thirukkural Paraipadai programme, seminar programme, folk cultural programme will also be held on the occasion.
The conference was inaugurated by Tamil Development and Information Minister M P Saminathan. Perur Adheenam Santhalinga Maruthachala Adigalar and many tamil scholars and professors participated in this event.
Inaugurating the conference, the Minister visited the exhibition of classical instruments and enquired about various musical instruments.
He also played some of the instruments there.
Speaking to reporters on the occasion, Minister Saminathan said, He said tamils have developed music for thousands of years in their lives and it is with musical instruments such as parai that the kings themselves have proclaimed to the public and conveyed the message to the public. He said that this instrument was used in temple functions and auspicious occasions at that time.
It is our foremost duty to restore our culture, art and culture like this and the Chief Minister is doing a good job of taking the initiative. It is being developed through the Tamil Development Department, he said. The Minister said that Kalaignar has created and refined the Tamil Development Department and the Chief Minister is giving guidance in his footsteps.
He said that such programmes should be held in every village and the musical instruments, culture and culture of the Tamils in ancient times should be restored. Replying to a question on part-time classes, he said, steps would be taken to discuss the matter with the authorities and bring part-time classes into effect at the earliest.
It is to be noted that 1330 parai musicians will be performing simultaneously at the Thirukkural Paraipadai event to be held at 3:30 pm today.
