This memorandum aims to enhance the production potential of commercial grape varieties suitable for export, which is a major step towards strengthening the economy through export promotion.
Coimbatore: For the purpose of increasing the production potential of commercial grape varieties suitable for export, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on April 17, 2023 by the Department of Fruit Science, Horticultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India, New Delhi.
For the purpose of establishing research and development activities, APEDA has decided to offer a grant-in-aid of Rs. 97 lakhs. Vice-Chancellor of TNAU Dr. V. Geethalakshmi suggested that the MoU will help TNAU and APEDA to collaborate in areas of mutual interest. General Manager of APEDA in Bengaluru, R. Ravindra, expressed interest in working with TNAU.

The MoU was signed by Dr.R.TamizhVendan, Registrar, TNAU, Coimbatore and Shobana Kumar, Assistant General Manager, APEDA, Chennai in the presence of Dr.V.Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor, TNAU, Dr. P.Irene Vethamoni, Dean (Horticulture), HC&RI, Coimbatore, Dr.N.Senthil, Dean (SPGS), TNAU, Coimbatore, Dr.N.VenkatesaPalanichamy, Dean (Agriculture), AC&RI, TNAU, Dr.I.Muthuvel, Professor and Head, Department of Fruit Science and Dr.C.Indu Rani, Professor (Horticulture).
